Ranch Store Manager, Ranch gift shop/retail manager.
Position Summary:
The Ranch Store Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Puʻu O HŌkū Ranch Store, our on-property retail destination that reflects the ranch’s commitment to local agriculture, Hawaiian craftsmanship, and community connection. This is a leadership role requiring a highly organized, resourceful individual who can manage all aspects of the store —from sourcing and procurement to inventory control, staffing, and collaboration with our culinary team.
The Ranch Store is open seven days a week from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and the Store Manager is responsible for ensuring it is always staffed, well-stocked, and operating smoothly. The ideal candidate brings strong retail or operations management experience, a passion for locally-made and locally-grown goods, and the warm, grounded spirit that defines life on Molokaʻi.
Key Responsibilities:
Store Operations & Management
Oversee all daily operations of the ranch store, ensuring a clean, welcoming, well-organized, and well-stocked environment for guests and visitors.
Maintain store opening and closing procedures, ensuring the store operates reliably seven days a week from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Create and sustain a store environment that authentically reflects the ranch’s identity — rooted in the land, local community, and the spirit of aloha.
Establish and refine operational systems for product display, signage, pricing, and the overall guest experience.
Sourcing & Procurement
Source and procure all products sold in the ranch store, including locally made crafts, artisan goods, ranch-produced items, packaged foods, and specialty products that reflect Molokaʻi’s culture and community.
Build and maintain relationships with local vendors, artisans, and producers across Molokaʻi and Hawaiʻi.
Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers to ensure the best value and reliable restocking.
Identify new sourcing opportunities that align with the ranch’s values of sustainability, local stewardship, and quality.
Inventory Management
Maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory records across all product categories.
Conduct regular inventory counts and audits to prevent shrinkage, spoilage, or shortfalls.
Develop and manage reorder points, par levels, and restocking schedules to keep shelves consistently stocked.
Coordinate the receiving, labeling, pricing, and shelving of all incoming inventory.
Track sales trends and adjust purchasing decisions accordingly.
Ensure regular cleaning of merchandise and displaysFresh & Perishable Items
Collaborate closely with the Head Chef to determine which fresh, prepared, and perishable items are available for the store — including produce, prepared foods, eggs, honey, and other ranch-grown or kitchen-made products.
Coordinate the daily transfer of fresh items from the kitchen or garden to the store, ensuring proper food-safe handling and display.
Manage refrigerated and counter display of perishables, monitoring freshness, rotation, and proper labeling.
Communicate regularly with the culinary team about seasonal availability, quantities, and product presentation in the store.
Staff Management & Scheduling
Work 4-5 days a week onsite.
Recruit, hire, onboard, and train store clerks and support staff as needed to maintain full coverage seven days a week.
Build and manage weekly staff schedules, ensuring the store is always adequately staffed during operating hours.
Supervise and support store clerks, providing ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and day-to-day direction.
Coordinate with the General Manager to leverage existing ranch staff for store coverage when appropriate.
Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment that reflects the ranch’s values and culture of aloha.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum 2–3 years of experience in retail management, store operations, or a closely related field.
Demonstrated experience in purchasing, procurement, or vendor management.
Strong inventory management skills, including experience with tracking systems, par levels, and product ordering.
Proven ability to hire, train, schedule, and supervise a small team.
Exceptional organizational skills with a detail-oriented approach to operations and administration.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable working with local vendors, ranch guests, and staff alike.
Self-motivated, reliable, and able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, rural work environment.
Comfortable working in a remote island setting and committed to the pace and lifestyle of Molokaʻi.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a farm store, ranch operation, specialty food retail, or agricultural hospitality setting.
Knowledge of Hawaiʻi’s local artisan community, food producers, and craft vendors.
Familiarity with food safety practices and handling requirements for fresh and perishable retail items.
Experience with point-of-sale systems and basic retail financial reporting.
Connection to or deep appreciation for Hawaiian culture, rural community life, and the values of the ʻaina.
Food handler’s certification or willingness to obtain.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
This position involves sustained standing, walking, and lifting (up to 40 pounds). The Store Manager will work both indoors in the store environment and outdoors when receiving deliveries or coordinating with the garden and kitchen. The ranch is located in a remote area of eastern Molokaʻi, and candidates should be comfortable with rural island living and the unique conditions it entails.
